Harald Wajant is a Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine II at the University Hospital of Würzburg and Head of the Division of Molecular Internal Medicine. He graduated from the Institute of Botany at the University of Stuttgart, Germany in 1993 and was then a postdoctoral research fellow and group leader at the Institute of Cell Biology and Immunology. He has taught at the University Hospital of Würzburg since 2003.
In the 1990s, Professor Wajant began studying th biotechnological development of plant hydroxynitrile lyases while also working in the completely different field of tumor necrosis factor (TNF) receptor signaling. Since then, Professor Wajant’s scientific interest has fully shifted to the TNF superfamily field and he is now focused on the mechanisms of TNF receptor activation, TNFR signaling and the development of TNFR targeting biologicals.
